Who Decides when Someone Gets I’ll

January 27th 2012 -

There are many ethical issues that arise when it comes to conflicting rights. For example, if a person gets ill, and loses the capability of choosing the right decisions, someone can interfere with his or her decisions. Usually, a power of attorney form is necessary in order for someone to have the right to interfere with a sick person’s decision. The power of attorney form is important because it allows someone to authorize somebody to act and decide on his or her behalf when the need arises. So if a sick person decides to end his or her life, and asks the doctor to do it, the doctor will not grant his or her request even if he or she has the right to do so. This is because his or her decision is influenced by the current situation. Interference with the patient’s decision is allowed only to those whom the patient legally chose. In the absence of a health care form, the family will have the legal right to decide on the patient’s behalf.
